What Is a LinkedIn Document Post (Carousel)?

A LinkedIn document post, often called a carousel, is a post that shares an uploaded document, such as a PDF or slide deck, which readers page through inside the feed. LinkedIn supports PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF files up to 100MB and 300 pages.

LinkedIn document post (carousel), explained

A LinkedIn document post is LinkedIn's native way to share a multi-page file in the feed. Creators commonly design square or portrait slides, export them as a PDF and upload them, which is why people call the format a carousel even though LinkedIn calls it a document. According to LinkedIn's help center, supported file types are PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF, with a limit of 100MB and 300 pages, and members who can see the post can download the document as a PDF. Once posted, you can edit the description but not the document itself, so check every slide before publishing. Document posts suit content that benefits from structure, such as step-by-step guides, frameworks, checklists or before-and-after comparisons. LinkedIn has said its algorithm does not favor any particular format, so a carousel is a choice about how best to carry an idea, not a shortcut to reach.

Example

A founder turns a blog post on onboarding into an eight-slide PDF: one slide per step, a summary slide and a final slide with a question for readers, then writes a two-line post introducing it.

In practice

Because the document cannot be edited after posting, treat it like a print run. For format choices more broadly, see why LinkedIn reach drops, and for turning one idea into several formats, see content repurposing.
