What Is the LinkedIn Social Selling Index (SSI)?

The LinkedIn Social Selling Index (SSI) is a score from 0 to 100 that LinkedIn calculates to show how well a member establishes a professional brand, finds the right prospects, engages with insights and builds relationships on LinkedIn. Each of the four pillars is worth up to 25 points.

LinkedIn Social Selling Index (SSI), explained

The LinkedIn Social Selling Index is LinkedIn's measure of social selling activity. It scores a member from 0 to 100 across four pillars: establishing a professional brand, finding the right people, engaging with insights, and building relationships, with each pillar contributing up to 25 points. LinkedIn built it by studying how top-performing sales professionals used the platform. It is useful as a rough self-check on whether your profile and activity cover the basics, for example a complete profile, regular relevant engagement and a growing network in your market. It is not a measure of revenue. LinkedIn's own SSI page now says a high score does not always reflect a salesperson's effectiveness or correlate with measurable sales outcomes. Treat it as a hygiene metric and judge your results by conversations, meetings and pipeline that start from your activity on the platform.

Example

A founder checks her SSI, sees a low score on the "find the right people" pillar, and spends a month building a focused list of target accounts instead of connecting with anyone who asks.

In practice

LinkedIn has promoted SSI with claims that social selling leaders create 45% more opportunities and are 51% more likely to reach quota, citing an internal study without a date or method. Those numbers come from LinkedIn about its own product, so weigh them accordingly.

For founder-led content, the more useful measures are the ones in the LinkedIn ROI guide: conversations started, meetings booked and pipeline created.
